DURGA STOTRA/Hymn to Durga by Sri Aurobindo ( Dedicated to the Divine Mother) Translation Chaman Lal RainaIO Divine Mother Durga! O Mother, You ride on the lion, thus you are Simha Vahini! You are the bestower of all Shakti/enrgy! You are the consort of Shiva! We are the portion of your Shakti/energy. W e are the youth of Bharata are standing in your Mandir/the dwelling place. We make a request to you—O Mother, listen to us! May you descend on the land of Bharata, and make us illumine!2O Divine Mother Durga! May we assume the human birth in each and every aeon! May we experience the realm of Bliss, in accomplishing your task! We have taken the human form in this age, to be a Vrati/dedicated in fulfilling your task. O Mother, listen to us! Please descend on the land of Bharata, to bless us with your help.3O Divine Mother Durga! O Simhavahini! O Trishuladharini- the wielder of the trident. O Jayadayini! Being the cause of all victory, descend in our beautiful forms, as you are the Jayadayini. Bharata is waiting for your descent, and the nation wants to see your Mangala-mayi Murti, which is all auspiciousness in the form of the youth. Therefor, O Mother, listen to us, descend on the land of Bharata and emit your light every where.4 O Divine Mother Durga! You are the bestower of strength, love, jnana-knowledge. O Mother, you are the very form of Shakti/energy! You are bold, you are both benign and dreadful! We need to be blessed during our fight within live forces, in freeing our motherland Bharata. O Mother, give us the strength of Asura in our vital force and the effort of Asura in accomplishing our fight with evil. O Mother, bestow upon us the characteristics of Buddha and the wisdom of the Buddha Deva.5 O Mother Durga! The Indian race is the nobler one, but it has been clouded with the darkness of inertia. O Mother! You rise above in the sky and through your radiance, we do receive the early dawn light. O Mother, make a vast expanse of this effulgent lightthus destroying the darkness in and around.6O Mother Durga! The ancient land of Bharata is full of greenery, all beautiful, the abode of Jnana-knowledge both spiritual and mundane. It is your manifestation of glory. You hide your glory and take away the strength and valor from us at this hour of need. That aeon has arrived and that day has come, when the Bharata Mata should lift the burden of the world on her shoulders . O Mother show this to us throughyour esteemed light!7O Mother Durga! We are your children, we are capable to do the great deeds, an go in for great accomplishments. Cut off all the shackles of weakness within us. Remove the selfish nature within us and tear off the dread in and around us.8O Mother ! you are Kali, wearing the necklace of beheaded heads. You have thrown away all your garments, you have a sword in your hand and you are destroying the Asuras! With your great resonance, kill all the enemies hidden within us, so that not a single one is left over. That would make us pure, clean and taintless. This is our prayer! Make us see all this with your beaming light.9O Mother Durga! The ancient land of India is now wrapped with selfishness, dread, weakness, and we look like living dead. Make us arise and awake, make a greater effort for it. Be benevolent enough. to be pure and be resoluteyou’re your action. We should never be cowardice and week; borne with inertia and timid ness. Remove all these from our being.10O Mother Durga! Manifest your Yogic energy. We are your dear ‘Noble’ children.Manifest in the world giving a boost to our education, character, intellect and devotion, O Durgati Nashini! You are dispeller of all humiliation. O Jagadamba-the Mother of the Universe, accelerate your effulgence!11O Mother Durga! Kill all our inborn enemies. Uproot all the outer obstacles. Manifest with your light and effulgence with all your strength, valor, supramental consciousness. Manifest again in the sacred land of Bharata-- the abode of fertility, where the mountains touch the sky, where the water resources are filled with pure and clean water. Where unity should prevail upon, with pure strength; where art and literature, the higher knowledge of spirituality, making every thing superb becomes vibrant. Descend and make it your abode. This is our prayer to you, O Mother!12 O Mother Durga! Enter into our bodies through you Yoga Shakti! We are your instruments. May we be like the sun for destroying inauspicious enemies; may we be the light beams to destroy the darkness of illusion. Be instrument unto yourself. Fulfill this aspiration of the youth of Bharata. Make this instrument run by becoming the instrument yourself. Annihlate all the enemies, by crushing inauspiciousness everywhere. Be a beacon light by becoming the very form of knowledge and light. Show us your shining light!13O Mother Durga! We will not let you go, the moment we shall receive you. Protect us with the string of faith and devotion, and with all love. This is what we want. Manifest in our minds, vital breath and body!14O Mother! You are the torch bearer leading towards the road of the great and valorous. We will never and ever leave you. May we have the Durga Puja always and ever in our lives, without any break. May our works be fulfilled with purity, love, energy and devotion to the motherhood. This is our prayer O Mother! Descend in the land of Bharata with all your beaming effulgence and radiance! |

(Shri Chakra) by Dr Chaman Lal Raina When BRAHMAN/ Divine Excellence manifests as Prakriti, then that is known as SHRI MATA BHAVANI. Shri Mata is the Divine Mother, the Mother of the Universe. All the seeds of creation are inherent in the Hiranya Garbha or the Cosmic womb of the Divine Mother. She has got two inherent qualities for the betterment of the universal existence. PRESERVATION & CORRECTION 1 She as the Protector/ sustainer is adored and prayed as the Mother Lakshmi, which is one of the names of Shri Durga. 2 She as the preserver of authority and exercises the Ichha Shakti known as Free-will 3 She is also the Mother of Aesthetics, the sweetness of thought and tenderness of heart. 4 She as Lalita abides in the heart of the devotee. This is the declaration of Brahma-the creator. 5Durga is not different from Shiva 6 Bhavani is adored with ONE THOUSAND attributes. Sahsra-Nama- Stotram has been able to solve this philosophic problem on the empirical and transcendental side on the basis of Chit-Shakti--consciousness and Bhavana-meditative aspect on 'MANTRA-YANTRA -TANTRA."The experience of man speaks that the origination is possible with the union of male and female principle. The idea of the unity of Siva and Shakti are always equal and identical. A seeker after Truth realizes that Brahman/ Divine Effulgence is both male and female in essence.” Nava Durga is said to have descended on the Paratipada Tithi/ 1st date of Chaitra Shukla, of the HINDU calendar, corresponding to the month of January. Modes of Worship1 The devotees pay obeisance to the DIVINE MOTHER –the Goddess of Sublimation on an icon of stone, Yantra, Kalasha.2 The devotees recite the Bhavani Sahsranama. 3 The SEED Syllables are invoked3 The Puja/worship is done with sixteen steps as described in the scriptures.4 Ashtami is the day dedicated to Divine Mother as Ragnya.
